A red C6 Corvette<\/a> turned a Friday night patrol into a front row view of a street race, blasting off at 120 mph on the Buckman Bridge in Jacksonville, Florida \u2014 all while an unmarked Jacksonville sheriff\u2019s vehicle was directly behind it.
\n \n<\/p>\n

Officer Ernesto Valerio was watching traffic when a Dodge Challenger pulled alongside the Corvette, the two cars slowing enough to clog lanes. In bodycam video released Tuesday, Valerio can be heard reacting as the Corvette driver sticks an arm out the window and gives a countdown signal.
\n \n<\/p>\n

\u201cLook at these guys blocking everything,\u201d Valerio says \u2014 seconds before the Corvette and Challenger launch into a full-blown race. \u201cOh, and they\u2019re racing now. Right in front of me.\u201d
\n \n<\/p>\n

The Corvette jumps ahead immediately, leaving the Challenger struggling to keep pace as both cars hit triple digit speeds. Valerio floors it after them, eventually catching only the Challenger, which appeared to lose the race.
\n \n<\/p>\n

The driver, 22-year-old Quashay Frazier Jr., was arrested on charges of racing and super speeding<\/a>. The Corvette driver, who initiated the race with the hand signal, was apparently not caught.
\n \n<\/p>\n

JSO said the arrest was one of eight made Friday and Saturday during \u201cOperation Double Down,\u201d a crackdown targeting street racers and super speeders. The agency emphasized the danger of high-speed stunts on public roads.
\n \n<\/p>\n

\u201cDriving this recklessly puts lives at risk. Plain and simple,\u201d JSO said in its social media post. The department noted Jacksonville has already lost more than 100 people on its roads this year, with speed and impairment among the top factors.
\n \n<\/p>\n

Valerio\u2019s video ends with him ordering Frazier out of the Challenger at gunpoint.
\n \n<\/p>\n

\u201cShut the vehicle off, now! If you don\u2019t understand this, let me tell you right now, you\u2019re under arrest for racing and super speeding,\u201d he tells the driver.
\n \n<\/p>\n

The Corvette \u2014 the car that started it all \u2014 sped off into the night, apparently escaping the stop but not the camera that captured the moment it triggered the race.
\n \n<\/p>\n
