Fresh off her win<\/a> in a crowded Democratic Primary in Florida\u2019s 2nd Congressional District, Amanda Marie Green has announced endorsements from Democratic state Reps. Gallop Franklin and Allison Tant.<\/p>\n

The two lawmakers are among just five sitting House Democrats north of Orlando. After former state Sen. Loranne Ausley was unseated in 2022, they have held the highest office of any Democrat anywhere in the 16-county CD 2.<\/p>\n

\u201cAmanda understands North Florida because she has made listening to the people who live here the foundation of her campaign,\u201d Tant said.<\/p>\n

Tant was first elected in 2020, representing House District 9, a district stretching west from northeast Tallahassee to Madison County. Franklin was first elected in 2022 in House District 8, which includes western parts of Tallahassee and Gadsden County. Both are viewed as moderate Democrats.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe understands that our communities need leaders focused on lowering costs, expanding access to quality healthcare, creating economic opportunity, and delivering real results for the people they represent,\u201d Franklin said of Green.<\/p>\n

In Tuesday\u2019s Primary, Green took 33% of the vote, but in a crowded four-candidate field, it was enough to eke out a win. Lawyer Yen Bailey earned 28%, community advocate Brice Barnes won 27% and tech entrepreneur Nic Zateslo finished with 12% of the vote.<\/p>\n

Green previously worked at an organization dispensing foreign aid overseas, and cited President Donald Trump\u2019s dismantling of the U.S. Agency for International Development as one of the factors that motivated her to enter the race. Campaigning while pregnant, she won the support of the AFL-CIO and former U.S. Rep. Allen Boyd, a Democrat who held the seat from 1996 until 2010.<\/p>\n

Green faces an uphill climb in the General Election, where lawyer Austin Rogers defeated seven other candidates in the Republican Primary. Rogers formerly served as General Counsel to U.S. Sen. Rick Scott.<\/p>\n

The winner in November will succeed 10-year U.S. Rep. Neal Dunn, who is retiring due to health reasons.<\/p>\n

Democrats last won the seat in 2014, when now-Democratic Lieutenant Governor nominee Gwen Graham narrowly carried it.\u00a0In 2024, Trump won 58% of votes in the largely rural district, which stretches from DeFuniak Springs to the Suwannee River.<\/p>\n

Dunn\u2019s retirement coupled with the favorable national climate means Democrats feel they have the best chance in a decade to flip the seat.
