JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2013 A Duval County jury found Norman Caison guilty of grand theft and money laundering, State Attorney Melissa Nelson announced Wednesday. Caison now faces up to 15 years in Florida State Prison.<\/p>\n
Scammer posed as credit union representative<\/p>\n
On July 21, 2025, a victim received a phone call from someone claiming to represent Community First Credit Union, where she held a bank account. The caller claimed to have found fraudulent activity on her account and asked her to verify her name and date of birth.<\/p>\n
The scammer then asked about specific transactions, including a $1,300 pending Zelle transaction the victim could see in her account. He instructed her to change her username and password, then sent a confirmation text with further instructions.<\/p>\n
The scammer told the victim she needed to withdraw her money and deposit it into a Chase account \u2014 or risk having it stolen. He promised the funds would be returned to her account by midnight.<\/p>\n
Victim withdrew $7,000 using Neptune Beach ATM<\/p>\n
Having received a fraud alert from the previous week, the victim believed the caller and withdrew $7,000. She deposited the money into a Chase account using an ATM in Neptune Beach.<\/p>\n
The scammer then had the victim add a debit card to her Apple Wallet, again promising the money would be back in her account by midnight. When she checked the next morning on July 22, the account was empty and the Apple Wallet had been cleared.<\/p>\n
The victim reported the scam to the Neptune Beach Police Department.<\/p>\n
Surveillance video captured Caison at Chase Bank<\/p>\n
Detectives discovered that within an hour of the victim depositing the money, Caison withdrew the cash from a Chase Bank \u2014 all captured on surveillance video. Bank records showed the money was transferred into a co-defendant\u2019s account.<\/p>\n
Investigators also revealed that prior to the transaction, Caison worked with an unidentified co-conspirator to launder money from compromised bank accounts into his co-defendant\u2019s account and other financial institutions.<\/p>\n
The case was investigated by the Neptune Beach Police Department and Jacksonville Sheriff\u2019s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Joseph Licandro and Fallon Hinkley.<\/p>\n
