(WSVN) &#8211; Authorities said they have arrested and charged a man in connection to <a href=\"https:\/\/wsvn.com\/news\/local\/broward\/man-hospitalized-after-shooting-near-gas-station-in-pompano-beach-1-detained\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">a shooting at a gas station in Pompano Beach<\/a> that sent a man to the hospital.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Broward Sheriff\u2019s Office detectives, 53-year-old Zalim Bacchus faces one charge of committing a first degree felony with aggravated battery.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Investigators said the incident took place  at the Marathon station located at the intersection of South Dixie Highway and Southwest Third Street, just before 7:45 p.m. on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Detectives said Bacchus and the victim got into an altercation before the shooting took place.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At one point, police scanners indicated that the victim was a clerk who was working at the gas station\u2019s convenience store.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt appears we\u2019ve got the clerk, got shot in the stomach,\u201d said a first responder in radio transmissions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, investigators have not confirmed whether the victim was the store clerk.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Surveillance video captured the moment deputies arrived at the scene. They found the victim suffering from gunshot wounds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Paramedics with Pompano Beach Fire Rescue transported the patient to an area hospital for treatment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Detectives said Bacchus was inside the convenience store and was detained. He was later placed under arrest and remains at the Broward County Jail.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Friday morning, 7News cameras captured a green Kia Soul that had been parked next to a pump since Thursday night. egular customers at the gas stations said it belongs to the clerk.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The shooting left people who work nearby feeling uneasy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThat\u2019s scary \u2019cause, I mean, what if I was here when that happened?\u201d said Gabriela Golart, who works in the area.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As of Friday afternoon, the victim\u2019s condition is unknown, as authorities continue to investigate this shooting.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 Sunbeam Television Corp.
