PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) \u2014 A ninth-grade student is facing two felonies after allegedly taking a weapon to school on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">According to the St. Petersburg Police Department, a Gibbs High School staff member notified the School Resource Officer about a student possibly concealing a handgun in his clothing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Police said the 15-year-old boy did not make any threats against anyone or against the school.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">After an investigation was launched, the boy was arrested for possession of a weapon on school property and unlawful carry of a concealed firearm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;The St. Petersburg Police makes the safety of students a top priority and any weapon on campus, or other threat to school safety, will be thoroughly investigated,&#8221; SPPD wrote in a press release. &#8220;This serves as a reminder to students that this is taken very seriously and the consequences could be severe.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc.
