MIAMI \u2014 Four-time NBA champion Klay Thompson is expected to join the Miami Heat after reaching a contract buyout with the Dallas Mavericks, multiple reports confirmed on Friday.<\/p>\n
Thompson will need to clear waivers before he can officially sign with Miami.<\/p>\n
Thompson, 36, was owed $17.5 million for the 2026-27 season. The Mavericks had been looking for a trade involving the veteran guard, but the two sides ultimately agreed to end his contract through a buyout, according to ESPN\u2019s Shams Charania<\/a>. <\/p>\n The move would bring the sharpshooter to Miami after two seasons in Dallas. <\/p>\n During his time with the Mavericks, he appeared in 141 games, including 80 starts, and averaged 12.9 points per game while shooting 38.7% from three-point range.<\/p>\n Thompson entered the NBA in 2011 after the Golden State Warriors selected him 11th overall. He spent 13 seasons with Golden State, winning four NBA championships and earning five All-Star selections. <\/p>\n It\u2019s been an eventful offseason for the Miami Heat who previously added Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis in a trade with the Milwaukee Bucks, along with Tim Hardaway Jr., to team with center Bam Adebayo.<\/p>\n The majority of Miami\u2019s games this season, at least 68<\/a>, will be airing on Local 10 News. <\/p>\n
