A former University of Miami doctor denied allegations that he sexually battered several medical students by giving them unwanted prostate exams.<\/p>\n
Dr. Ranjith Ramasamy, 45, was handcuffed at Miami International Airport on Thursday around 10:45 a.m. and appeared in bond court that afternoon. He posted a $120,000 bond and was placed on house arrest.<\/p>\n
\u201c\u2060I never sexually assaulted anyone, never,\u201d Ramasamy said in a statement Friday afternoon.<\/p>\n
The renowned urologist will be staying with his wife and children at a home in Sarasota. Ramasamy surrendered after returning from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where he was working at a clinic, according to court records.<\/p>\n
Miami-Dade Bond Court Judge Mindy Glazer also ordered him to stay away from the victims.<\/p>\n
Ramasamy had been wanted since October 2025, when a judge issued an arrest warrant for him. The doctor, who is facing three counts of sexual battery, has pleaded not guilty.<\/p>\n
Ramasamy, who was employed at the University of Miami as a professor of urology and director of male reproductive medicine and surgery, is accused of sexually assaulting students as far back as 2016, according to his arrest warrant.<\/p>\n
The University of Miami couldn\u2019t be immediately reached for comments about Ramasamy\u2019s arrest.<\/p>\n
Ramasamy, in his statement, said the allegations against him stemmed from \u201cdisgruntled members of the university community.\u201d He said he attempted to address the accusations, but UM didn\u2019t provide him records that \u201cwould exonerate me.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ramasamy also said he moved to Dubai before criminal charges were brought against him. Ramasamy\u2019s license to practice medicine in Florida remains active, according to records.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs soon as I found out about these criminal charges a few months ago, I immediately agreed to voluntarily return to the United States to refute the false accusations and clear my name,\u201d Ramasamy said.<\/p>\n
Three of Ramasamy\u2019s students, whom the doctor allegedly diagnosed with different conditions, told detectives that Ramasamy performed prostate exams that were \u201cmuch longer and aggressive\u201d than regular prostate exams, according to the warrant.<\/p>\n
Ramasamy did not document any of the procedures on the students\u2019 charts, according to the warrant.<\/p>\n
The warrant also mentions at least three other victims who shared similar accounts with detectives.<\/p>\n
\u201cNone of these procedures were medically indicated, they were performed in a manner inconsistent with the standard of care, alone and after normal business hours, and fall far outside the acceptable bounds of any medical practice,\u201d detectives say in the warrant.<\/p>\n
