After a brief break for summer, the Key Biscayne Community Compost Program, run by A Zero Waste Culture and launched in 2020, has restarted weekly Saturday collections at the Farmers Market at Key Biscayne Community Church, 355 Glenridge Rd.<\/p>\n
The Compost Program\u2019s mission is to divert food scraps and other organics from landfill, reduce methane emissions and create nutrient-rich soil.<\/p>\n
Members collect food scraps during the week and bring them to the collection station on Saturdays.<\/p>\n
Below is the environmental impact of the Island\u2019s composting efforts:<\/p>\n
\u2022 1,353 pounds of food scraps collected this past week<\/p>\n
\u2022\u00a0413,973 pounds collected so far, or 201.67 tons<\/p>\n
\u2022\u00a0134.54 metric tons of greenhouse gases prevented from entering the atmosphere<\/p>\n
