{"id":378347,"date":"2026-08-22T12:54:43","date_gmt":"2026-08-22T12:54:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/378347\/"},"modified":"2026-08-22T12:54:43","modified_gmt":"2026-08-22T12:54:43","slug":"broward-deputies-arrest-gas-station-shooting-suspect-after-confession-records-show","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/378347\/","title":{"rendered":"Broward deputies arrest gas station shooting suspect after confession, records show"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">POMPANO BEACH, Fla.  \u2014 A 53-year-old man confessed to shooting a man who was working as a clerk on Thursday night at a gas station in Pompano Beach, according to a Broward Sheriff\u2019s Office deputy\u2019s arrest report.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.local10.com\/espanol\/2026\/08\/21\/arrestan-a-sospechoso-de-balacera-en-gasolinera-de-broward-acusado-de-herir-a-hombre\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.local10.com\/espanol\/2026\/08\/21\/arrestan-a-sospechoso-de-balacera-en-gasolinera-de-broward-acusado-de-herir-a-hombre\/\">Leer en espa\u00f1ol<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Shortly after 7:40 p.m. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.local10.com\/news\/local\/2026\/08\/20\/man-shot-in-pompano-beach-suspect-detained-bso-says\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.local10.com\/news\/local\/2026\/08\/20\/man-shot-in-pompano-beach-suspect-detained-bso-says\/\">on Thursday<\/a>, deputies found a man who was wounded in the abdomen behind a counter at the Marathon gas station at 220 South Dixie Highway, according to the report. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Zalim Bacchus, who had a .25 caliber semi-automatic pistol, \u201chad his hands raised and sponaenously uttered, \u2018I shot him,\u2019\u201d a deputy wrote, according to the arrest report. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The victim told deputies that after Bacchus used the restroom, he was \u201cconcealing a bottle of Sprite,\u201d so he locked him inside the store and confronted him, according to the arrest report. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cBacchus pulled a gun on him and fired at him,\u201d a deputy wrote, according to the report. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Pompano Beach Fire Rescue personnel took the victim to Broward Health North in Pompano Beach, and his condition was critical but stable, according to the report. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Broward corrections booked Bacchus on Friday morning at the Broward County Main Jail in Fort Lauderdale, according to county inmate records. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Bacchus, of Pompano Beach, faced a charge of aggravated battery, a first-degree felony, and Broward County Circuit Judge Michael Lynch was set to preside over the capital case, according to county court records. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Detectives asked anyone with information about this or other cases who wants to remain anonymous to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Local 10 News Assignment Editor Carson Merlo contributed to this report. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Related report: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.local10.com\/news\/local\/2026\/08\/20\/man-shot-in-pompano-beach-suspect-detained-bso-says\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.local10.com\/news\/local\/2026\/08\/20\/man-shot-in-pompano-beach-suspect-detained-bso-says\/\">Man shot at Pompano Beach gas station, 1 detained, BSO says<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-article-body__copyright\">Copyright 2026 by WPLG Local10.com &#8211;
