For Tallahassee, it was the second consecutive day of 100.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For Miami, it was only the second time in 131 years that the Magic City would see triple digits on the outdoor thermometer. The first time was in 1942.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">West Palm Beach, Fort Pierce and Vero Beach all hit 96 degrees, which is the highest recorded temperature for Aug. 18.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here\u2019s what we know about the record high heats across Florida.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Shop Amazon for hot weather essentials<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Which Florida cities hit record high temperatures yesterday?<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the Southeast Regional Climate Center, other high temperature records broken or tied Aug. 18 include:<\/p>\n<p>Tallahassee and Miami at 100 degrees<\/p>\n<p>Fort Lauderdale and Jacksonville at 98 degrees<\/p>\n<p>Melbourne and Gainesville at 97 degrees<\/p>\n<p>West Palm Beach, Fort Pierce, Vero Beach at 96 degrees<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why are temperatures so high in Florida?<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A nagging area of high pressure over the Southeast U.S. is partly to blame for the high temperatures as sinking air is warmer and tends to evaporate any clouds that try to form, allowing for more sunshine to reach the surface. Also, no clouds means no rain.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Temperatures for Aug. 19 were forecast to be in the low 90s in the Florida Keys into the upper 90s through the Panhandle.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.bocaratontribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/2026-08-19T211214Z_311893934_MT1USDAYNETFLP91366847007_FRTPIP_4_USA-TODAY-NETWORK.jpg?ssl=1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" data-id=\"325180\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/2026-08-19T211214Z_311893934_MT1USDAYNETFLP91366847007_FRTPIP_4_USA-TODAY-NETWORK.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-325180\"  \/><\/a>Miami hit 100 degrees on Aug. 18, 2026, which is only the second time in records dating to 1895. Florida\u2019s mini season was July 29-30, giving divers a two-day head start on the regular commercial and recreational season that\u00a0begins on Aug. 6. The bag limit was 12 lobsters per person.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Haner said the high pressure is expected to slowly push west, moving the heat dome that has menaced Florida into the southwestern states. That could mean a return of higher rain chances to cool off spicy afternoons.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Still, temperatures through the weekend are still forecast statewide to be in the low to mid 90s.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cPeople say, \u2018Oh, it\u2019s just summertime in South Florida,\u2019 but the heat can cause serious injury,\u201d said Garcia. \u201cAnd we\u2019re not done with the heat this week.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How often does it reach 100 degrees in Florida?<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Andy Haner, a meteorologist with the NWS in Miami, said having a few 100-degree days in the summer is normal for Tallahassee International Airport.
