{"id":379664,"date":"2026-08-24T12:44:15","date_gmt":"2026-08-24T12:44:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/379664\/"},"modified":"2026-08-24T12:44:15","modified_gmt":"2026-08-24T12:44:15","slug":"ex-um-doctor-denies-sex-battery-claims-after-arrest-in-new-video-nbc-6-south-florida","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/379664\/","title":{"rendered":"Ex-UM doctor denies sex battery claims after arrest in new video \u2013 NBC 6 South Florida"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A former University of Miami doctor and professor is speaking out about his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcmiami.com\/news\/local\/ex-um-doctor-and-professor-accused-of-sexually-battering-students-police-say\/3848811\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.nbcmiami.com\/news\/local\/ex-um-doctor-and-professor-accused-of-sexually-battering-students-police-say\/3848811\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">arrest on sexual battery charges<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Ranjith Ramasamy refuted the accusations in a video less than 24 hours after bonding out of jail.<\/p>\n<p>The 45-year-old had been arrested on three counts of sexual battery, and has pleaded not guilty.<\/p>\n<p>In a video statement released Friday, he called the allegations against him slanderous and false.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I never sexually assaulted anyone, never,&#8221; he said in the minute-long video provided by his attorneys. &#8220;I never performed any unnecessary medical procedure. \u2060I never assaulted anyone.&#8221;<br \/>\u2060<br \/>Investigators said three men claimed the doctor inappropriately touched them and used his position to perform sexually explicit exams that weren&#8217;t medically necessary.<\/p>\n<p>Court records showed the alleged victims were former students and employees.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These slanderous allegations were levied against me more than two and a half years ago by disgruntled members of the university community,&#8221; Ramasamy said in the video.<\/p>\n<p>Ramasamy had been employed at the University of Miami as director of male reproductive medicine and surgery, and later associate professor of urology.<\/p>\n<p>He explained why he left in 2024 in the video.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The employment situation with the university became untenable, so I accepted a position with a large healthcare facility in Dubai,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Ramasamy said when he left to Dubai more than two years ago, there were no criminal charges or investigations pending against him.<\/p>\n<p>Police said their investigation started in 2024, but accusers have reported incidents dating back to 2016.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs soon as I found out about these criminal charges a few months ago, I immediately agreed to voluntarily return to the United States to refute the false accusations and clear my name,&#8221; he said in the video.<\/p>\n<p>Ramasamy bonded out of jail early Friday and was fitted with an ankle monitor as part of his release.<\/p>\n<p>His attorneys said he is living at home in Sarasota, where he will stay while the case moves through the court system.<\/p>\n<p>NBC6 has reached out to the University of Miami and was awaiting a response.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A former University of Miami doctor and professor is speaking out about his arrest on sexual battery charges.&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":379665,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[15],"tags":[225,227,226,123],"class_list":["post-379664","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-hialeah","tag-hialeah","tag-hialeah-headlines","tag-hialeah-news","tag-miami"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/379664","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=379664"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/379664\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/379665"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=379664"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=379664"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=379664"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
