Foodborne illnesses: Orlando doctor explains risks, symptoms and prevention<\/p>\n

Dr. Daniel Egan of Orlando Health explains the differences between foodborne illnesses, their symptoms, and how to stay safe.<\/p>\n

Foodborne illnesses infect about one in six people every year, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. <\/p>\n

This summer, companies have pulled products ranging from lettuce to jalape\u00f1os and blueberries off shelves, warning of potential Cyclospora, Salmonella, and E. coli outbreaks. <\/p>\n

Dr. Daniel Egan, an infectious diseases physician at Orlando Health, joined WESH 2 to explain the key differences between Salmonella, E. coli, and Cyclospora, noting that the signs and symptoms vary. <\/p>\n

Dr. Egan’s biggest tips are practicing supportive care, for example, staying hydrated, and handwashing. <\/p>\n

He says soap and water go a long way in stopping the spread of illnesses and diseases. <\/p>\n
