TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Wealthy Tallahassee landowner Jeffrey Phipps who had filed for voluntary annexation <\/a>for land near Lake Jackson, has withdrawn the application, according to a letter to the Tallahassee city attorney. <\/p>\n

In the proposal, Phipps had filed for the voluntary annexation of 1,700 acres of rural Leon County into city limits. It would have made around 1,000 acres developable.<\/p>\n

The effort to annex the property on North Meridian Road near Lake Jackson was rejected last year by commissioners. It has also faced pushback from citizens over environmental concerns. <\/p>\n

Leon County Commissioners unanimously voted to object the annexation in July. <\/a><\/p>\n

According to the letter from Phipps\u2019s attorney Gary Hunter, the county had raised concerns \u201cresulting ultimately in a mediation with the County pursuant to the pending interlocal agreement between the City and the County.\u201d The letter said county concerns continued and now the application for annexation has been withdrawn. <\/p>\n
