{"id":380028,"date":"2026-08-24T21:02:07","date_gmt":"2026-08-24T21:02:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/380028\/"},"modified":"2026-08-24T21:02:07","modified_gmt":"2026-08-24T21:02:07","slug":"portmiamis-regulated-feeding-program-for-stray-cats-needs-volunteers-food-donors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/380028\/","title":{"rendered":"PortMiami\u2019s regulated feeding program for stray cats needs volunteers, food donors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">MIAMI \u2014 Jeannine Frontela\u2019s heart is with the community of stray cats at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.miamidade.gov\/portmiami\/home.page\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.miamidade.gov\/portmiami\/home.page\">PortMiami<\/a>, which spans across 500 acres on three islands. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Two years ago, the port and Miami-Dade Animal Services partnered to care for the cats through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.miamidade.gov\/global\/service.page?Mduid_service=ser1599404922449638\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.miamidade.gov\/global\/service.page?Mduid_service=ser1599404922449638\">Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate and Return program or TNVR<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Miami-Dade Animal Services has sterilized 146 cats since the program started. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/jeannine.perez143\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/jeannine.perez143\/\">Frontela, an advocate and volunteer,<\/a> has helped to trap and feed the cats. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cI am the voice of some of these cats,\u201d Frontela said. \u201cNo food is being provided.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The program relies on food donations and counts on 14 volunteers, including Frontela. But, they need more. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cWe are looking for volunteers that either work at the port, or they are familiar with the port, to assist feeding the cats,\u201d said Raysa Samper, the port\u2019s property manager.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Last year, Miami-Dade County commissioners voted to allow the lawful feeding of stray animals and to prohibit the dumping of animals at the port. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The port opened five designated cat feeding stations, but four are behind security fences.
