Fort Lauderdale, FL – A car caught fire Saturday night after a collision involving an Amtrak train in Fort Lauderdale, according to fire rescue officials.<\/p>\n
The crash happened at about 7:30 p.m. near Northwest 9th Avenue and West Prospect Road. <\/p>\n
Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue said dispatchers received several 911 calls reporting that a vehicle had collided with a train and was burning.<\/p>\n
Crews from Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue and Oakland Park Fire Rescue responded to the scene. <\/p>\n
Firefighters arrived to find the vehicle on fire near the stopped Amtrak train and worked to extinguish the flames.<\/p>\n
After containing the fire, emergency personnel boarded the train to check passengers and crew members for possible injuries.<\/p>\n
Officials said two people were evaluated at the scene, but no one was transported to a hospital. <\/p>\n
Authorities also reported no confirmed injuries involving the occupants of the vehicle or people aboard the train.<\/p>\n
Photos released by fire rescue officials showed extensive fire damage to the vehicle following the collision. <\/p>\n
The train remained stopped while crews completed their response and assessed the scene.<\/p>\n
Authorities have not released information about how many passengers were on the Amtrak train or its destination at the time of the crash.<\/p>\n
Investigators also have not said what caused the collision or whether the vehicle was traveling through a railroad crossing when it was struck.<\/p>\n
