Like father, like son. It didn’t take Noel Devine Jr. long to make an impact on his high school football team (Cape Coral) in Florida. In his first-ever varsity game as a freshman, he recorded two touchdowns \u2014 one on a return and another on a pitch to him in motion.<\/p>\n

Jr. also had a few other big plays in the game, including an impressive diving catch that went for about 35 yards.<\/p>\n

Following the game, he picked up an offer from Florida, giving him four Division I offers already. The others who are already involved are Miami, South Florida, and, of course, West Virginia. Considering he’s in the 2030 recruiting class, several other Power Four programs are going to get involved and pursue him more heavily as he reaches the latter half of his prep career.<\/p>\n

Could Noel Jr. follow in his father’s and brother’s footsteps?\"Andre<\/p>\n

Noel’s dad will forever be remembered as one of the best running backs in program history, rushing for 4,315 yards and 29 touchdowns on 728 carries. While he only spent one season with Rich Rodriguez before he left for Michigan, the two developed a strong relationship in their brief time together in Morgantown, which went back to his recruitment.<\/p>\n

Noel’s older brother, Andre, is currently on the West Virginia roster and fighting for playing time despite being an undersized back. <\/p>\n

\u201cI like some of our younger backs that we brought in, and even little Andre Devine has shown flashes. He\u2019s a competitive guy,” Rodriguez said earlier in camp. “He\u2019s a smaller guy. He\u2019s even smaller than his old man, but he\u2019s a good football player. I like the room right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Andre is probably the fifth or sixth option in that room, but he could have a role on special teams this fall. Once he adds more weight, he could factor into the running back rotation.<\/p>\n

The same “problem” exists for Noel Jr., checking in at 5’9″, 146 lbs. That said, he is up ten pounds from this time a year ago and still has four years to make gains in the weight room. That’s plenty of time for him to reach the 170s or so, and one year in a college program will have him in the 180s.<\/p>\n

The lack of size was never an issue for Noel Sr., and I wouldn’t expect it to hinder Jr. either. The future is bright for him, and maybe, just maybe, he will play for his dad in Morgantown down the line.<\/p>\n
