It’s this very fact that is now celebrated at the aptly named Jellyfish Museum in Pompano Beach.

As the very first museum of its kind in the U.S., this nearly 10,000-square-foot facility is entirely dedicated to these mesmerizing predators and invites the public to learn about their important role in the ecosystem, alongside ocean conservation.

Unsplash/Diane Picchiottino

Opening earlier this year, the experience was founded by Alex and Yana Yanovsky, who previously developed successful aquariums in Europe. It’s intentionally designed to be both educational and relaxing, drawing on the jellies’ hypnotic movements to captivate visitors.

Inside, you’ll find up to 25 unique species collected from different corners of the world’s oceans — from Japanese sea nettles to moon jellies and upside-down jellyfish — in illuminated tanks. Each species is carefully maintained to highlight its natural form and translucent beauty, according to the museum’s website.

On top of seeing the many different floating creatures, guests can step into a five-meter-high 3D projection room where moving currents of light and drifting jellyfish come alive around them, as well as a mini laboratory that offers a behind-the-scenes look at how jellyfish grow, reproduce and feed. Educators are also present to lead guided tours for a more comprehensive walkthrough.

And since the museum is located just steps from the Pompano Beach Pier, a visit pairs perfectly with a walk along the beach or a meal at the nearby Fishing Village!

Location and hours

📍 199 N Ocean Blvd, Pompano Beach, FL 33062

📆 Hours: 9:30 a.m. – 7 p.m. (Mon-Fri), 10:00 a.m – 7:00 p.m. (Sat-Sun)

For more information and tickets (discounted for Florida residents), visit their website.
