LEESBURG, Fla. \u2014<\/p>\n
The woman killed in a shooting in Leesburg early Tuesday morning has been identified as 23-year-old Ananda Conley, the police department announced on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Conley was shot and killed as she attempted to enter a neighbor’s home at approximately 4:43 a.m. <\/p>\n
Police said Conley lived in the same Leesburg neighborhood as the residence she was allegedly trying to enter, about two to three blocks away.<\/p>\n
The shooter, who has not yet been identified, just moved into the home in May of this year and did not know Conley.<\/p>\n
Conley’s roommate said Conley had been drinking and left her residence upset. That’s when Conley, for unknown reasons, tried to gain entry to another home in the neighborhood.<\/p>\n
Police said their investigation has been consistent with the shooter’s account of what happened. Cuts on Conley’s arm were consistent with cuts from reaching through the door glass.<\/p>\n
The shooter heard Conley trying to enter and repeatedly told her to leave. He also warned her that he was armed, police said.<\/p>\n
Leesburg police said Conley continued attempting to gain entry, at which point he fired a handgun through the door, breaking the window. That’s when she reached through the broken window in an attempt to open the door from inside. <\/p>\n
The homeowner fired a second time, striking Conley and killing her, police said.<\/p>\n
Leesburg police said they are also awaiting further results from the Medical Examiner’s Office regarding toxicology and other evidentiary findings. <\/p>\n
