{"id":381970,"date":"2026-08-26T21:40:07","date_gmt":"2026-08-26T21:40:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/381970\/"},"modified":"2026-08-26T21:40:07","modified_gmt":"2026-08-26T21:40:07","slug":"no-water-poor-sanitizing-closes-fort-lauderdale-area-grocer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/381970\/","title":{"rendered":"No water, poor sanitizing closes Fort Lauderdale area grocer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Lauderdale Lakes grocery store with two names and four major problems has been shut down for eight days, as of Wednesday, after a state inspection.<\/p>\n<p>Whether you know the place at 3891 NW 24th St. as Halal Supermarket Fish Meat Produce or Caribbean Supermarket Fish Meat Produce, it lacked too many basics such as running water and sanitizer for Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services inspectors Steven Mentor and Francis Odio.<\/p>\n<p>Ag department inspectors, who check grocers, packaged food sellers, bakeries, food processors and food storage faciltiies, don\u2019t have the power to shut down a place as state restaurant inspectors do. But they can slap Stop Use Orders on areas and equipment that can make doing business hard to impossible.<\/p>\n<p>For the violation of \u201cNo running water available at the establishment at the time of the inspection,\u201d the inspectors dropped a \u201cStop Use Order issued for all open food processing\/dispensing\/packing, and all food equipment and kitchen utensils.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>No one answered the phone number for Halal Supermarket, and the number for Caribbean Supermarket went to voicemail. The license is for \u201cFish Meat and Produce,\u201d owned by Lauderhill Supermarkets, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/search.sunbiz.org\/Inquiry\/CorporationSearch\/SearchResultDetail?inquirytype=EntityName&amp;directionType=Initial&amp;searchNameOrder=LAUDERHILLSUPERMARKET+P170000214020&amp;aggregateId=domp-p17000021402-99b00f39-afe4-4a57-983c-3fe82988d2ab&amp;searchTerm=lauderhill+supermarket&amp;listNameOrder=LAUDERHILLSUPERMARKET+P170000214020\">which state corporate records say<\/a> is run by president Afrin Montaj.<\/p>\n<p>To<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/foodpermit.fdacs.gov\/Visit\/Default.aspx?id=99997182334125\"> lift the Stop Use Orders<\/a>, the inspection said, the \u201cestablishment must have running water, b.) a probe thermometer must be obtained, c.) chemical sanitizer and corresponding test strips must be obtained and d.) all equipment and utensils must be properly washed, rinsed, and sanitized.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lacking water and sanitizer got the store cited for several violations, although it didn\u2019t matter for the cutting board that had \u201cdeep grooves\/cuts and can no longer be effectively cleaned and sanitized.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Without a probe thermometer to make sure foods are being stored within the proper temperature ranges, chicken wings, chicken fingers and a drumstick inside a meat display cooler were 13 to 17 degrees too warm and got hit with Stop Sales.<\/p>\n<p>                                          <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"responsive-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Fish Meat and Produce in Lauderdale Lakes _fitted.jpeg\"   width=\"1200\" height=\"676\" title=\"Fish Meat and Produce in Lauderdale Lakes _fitted.jpeg\" alt=\"The market in this 2023 photo of 3981 NW 24th St. in Lauderdale Lakes is known as both Halal Supermarket Fish Meat Produce and Caribbean Supermarket Fish Meat Produce.\"\/>                                                                                    The market in this 2023 photo of 3981 NW 24th St. in Lauderdale Lakes is known as both Halal Supermarket Fish Meat Produce and Caribbean Supermarket Fish Meat Produce.
