16-year-old accused of murder in Orange County shooting<\/p>\n

A 16-year-old has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting earlier this year in Orange County, according to the sheriff’s office. <\/p>\n

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest Wednesday, stating the teen faces a charge of first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of 25-year-old Robert Shealey Jr. on April 17. <\/p>\n

Deputies responded around 8:30 p.m. that night to the 2200 block of Weston Point Drive, where they located two men in their 20s who were suffering from gunshot wounds. Both of the men were taken to the hospital, where Shealey was pronounced dead, the sheriff’s office said. <\/p>\n

WESH 2 News caught up with the victim’s father, Robert Shealey Sr., following Wednesday’s update. <\/p>\n

“He took a jewel from me, you know?” Shealey said. “It really, really hurts me, because every day, not a day go by I don’t think about him.” <\/p>\n

Shealey said that his son, who served in the Army, was home, and on that April evening, was out playing basketball. <\/p>\n

“My son was on the basketball court shooting basketball and a couple of kids were trying to fight and he was just telling them, ‘Hey, it’s not good to be fighting,'” Shealey said. <\/p>\n

Then, he was told, shots rang out, hitting another young man and then his only son. <\/p>\n

“My son did his time in the military. You know, to come home to someone to gun him down is just really horrible,” Shealey said. <\/p>\n

Shealey said he’s thankful to law enforcement. <\/p>\n

“I feel like they did really good because they did get him. I don’t know him, never seen him before in my life, but when you commit a crime, you have to serve the time,” he said. <\/p>\n

He just wants justice to be served with the teen’s day in court. <\/p>\n

“I’m really dreading that day, because I know it’s going to be hard, especially the first day I lay eyes on this kid, to know that, you know, he took my son,” Shealey said. “Don’t get much sleep. I cry a lot. Probably need more therapy than anything right now because it’s very, very hard and it’s hard on the family because of the way little Robert was. We called him Little Robert because I’m big Robert, but he was bigger than me.” <\/p>\n

Shealey said he also spoke with his son’s mother by phone and told her about the arrest as soon as he got word. <\/p>\n
