Since its publication nearly 90 years ago, Zora Neale Hurston\u2019s novel \u201cTheir Eyes Were Watching God\u201d<\/a> has faced opposition. It\u2019s still the ire of parents who\u2019ve pushed for its ban<\/a> in counties across the U.S. and Florida.<\/p>\n

More than a Black feminist classic, the 1937 work is simply human and tells the story of a voiceless girl trying to forge a path for herself\u2014with a stop in the Everglades along the way. <\/p>\n

Book club members who head to Tampa\u2019s Encore! district this week will discuss the book written in just seven weeks, and how \u201cHurston\u2019s use of regional dialect, folklore and interior reflection helped reshape American literature\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

There\u2019s no cover for the Black History Book Club meeting happening Monday, Aug. 31 at Tampa\u2019s Black History Museum<\/a>.<\/p>\n
