MIAMI, Florida \u2013 In Miami, rainstorms ain’t nothing to mess with, but this summer<\/a>, Will Smith\u2019s famous lyric about the Florida<\/a> city has not exactly reigned true.<\/p>\n

As September rapidly approaches with summer’s closure and the arrival of fall<\/a>, Miami is heading into the final days of August with its official rainfall<\/a> total running well below the usual pace for the heart of South Florida\u2019s wet season.<\/p>\n

The latest preliminary climate<\/a> report from the National Weather Service showed Miami International Airport had measured 3.40 inches of rain through Aug. 23, which was 3.53 inches below normal for that point in the month.<\/p>\n

The gauge also recorded just 10 days with at least 0.01 inches of rain, despite August typically being one of Miami\u2019s wettest months, according to NWS Miami climate<\/a> data.<\/p>\n

Miami typically picks up nearly 10 inches of rain in August, making it one of the city\u2019s wettest months of the year.<\/p>\n

Much of Florida remains gripped by drought<\/a> after a dry summer, with 67.1% of the state classified in drought, including 30.4% in severe drought and 9.7% in the extreme category.<\/p>\n

Daily rounds of showers and thunderstorms<\/a> will remain in the forecast across Florida and much of the Southeast<\/a> through the end of August, bringing the risk of locally heavy rain, frequent lightning<\/a> and gusty winds<\/a>.<\/p>\n

According to the FOX Forecast Center<\/a>, by the end of the weekend, much of the Southeast could pick up 1 to 3 inches of rain, with localized totals topping 3 inches where slow-moving or repeatedly developing storms set up.<\/p>\n
