A person fell from the scaffolding on the roof to the second floor.<\/p>\n

A construction worker at Tradition Lakes K-8 fell from scaffolding on the roof to the second floor and was taken to a hospital, St. Lucie Fire District and the St. Lucie School District confirmed.<\/p>\n
School District spokeswoman Lydia Martin told WPBF the injury occurred in the cordoned-off construction area of the new school. She said there was no disruption to the school day. <\/p>\n
Further questions are being directed to the construction company, Wharton-Smith. <\/p>\n
PIO Taylor Peeden told WPBF that the call came in at 11 a.m. for a reported fall from a truss.<\/p>\n
A squad unit responded to a rescue because of where the person was located. <\/p>\n
The patient was safely reached and taken to Cleveland Clinic Traditional Hospital in Port St. Lucie.<\/p>\n
Peeden said it wasn’t a trauma alert and the person was not critically injured. <\/p>\n
Wharton-Smith is a construction management and general contracting company with an office in Palm Beach Gardens and headquartered in Stanford. The company employs approximately 680 construction professionals and specializes in civil, commercialand environmental infrastructure projects across the Southeastern<\/p>\n
Students at St. Lucie County\u2019s newest school started one week later because it wasn’t ready. <\/p>\n
Tradition Lakes K-8 was scheduled to welcome students Monday, Aug. 10, but its opening was pushed back one week to Aug. 17. <\/p>\n
St. Lucie Public Schools Superintendent Jon Prince told WPBF 25 News Investigative Reporter Terri Parker he made the decision after touring the new campus Wednesday and seeing construction and classroom preparations still underway. <\/p>\n
\u201cI’ve got floors not waxed, you know, desks not put together and teachers that are exhausted,\u201d Prince said. <\/p>\n
Hundreds of workers were finishing various parts of the campus before its opening. <\/p>\n
Prince said he did not want more than 1,000 students arriving for their first day while the school still felt like a construction zone. <\/p>\n
