(WCTV) &#8211; There were originally two neonatal intensive care units in Tallahassee, but as of Friday, there will only be one, beginning in November. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">In a statement to WCTV Friday, HCA Florida Capital Hospital confirmed that it is preparing to discontinue its Level II NICU services effective Nov. 1.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cIn recent years, fewer babies born at our hospital have required the specialized care our neonatal intensive care unit provides,\u201d the statement said. \u201cAs the needs of our community evolve, we continually evaluate our services to ensure they support quality and safety.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Despite the NICU closure, HCA said the hospital will continue to offer delivery and labor services.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cWe will continue to be fully capable of taking care of all patients that arrive requiring emergency care \u2013 including an emergency delivery,\u201d HCA said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Furthermore, the hospital said families who need NICU services will continue to have access to \u201cspecialized neonatal support in the community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cOur teams will help coordinate a safe transfer and smooth transition when needed,\u201d HCA said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Though it is unclear how many employees will be impacted by the expected unit closure, HCA said it is \u201cworking closely with them to identify opportunities within our hospital or other locations across our network.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">As a result of HCA\u2019s NICU discontinuation, Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare said it is prepared to accept more infants.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cTMH is home to the region\u2019s only Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, with 32 Level II and Level III beds providing specialized care for premature and critically ill newborns,\u201d TMH said. \u201cWe are prepared to continue meeting the needs of our community and welcome newborns who require a higher level of care, including transfers from HCA Florida Capital Hospital.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wctv.tv\/2022\/04\/27\/capital-hospital-getting-ready-open-new-nicu-unit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wctv.tv\/2022\/04\/27\/capital-hospital-getting-ready-open-new-nicu-unit\/\">Four years ago<\/a>, WCTV reported that the hospital was preparing to open the $5 million unit in May 2022. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">This is a breaking news update.
