TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The new semester is now in week two, and dozens of Tallahassee college students are still without permanent housing.<\/a><\/p>\n

Florida State University student Juliet Rodriguez was one of several who spent Friday packing up their belongings after their move-in for the newly-built Perla apartments was delayed for a second time.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe paid to move in in August. August is over,\u201d Rodriguez said. \u201cThey\u2019ve been very vague with like, if we\u2019re even going to be able to move in next week.\u201d<\/p>\n

Developers for the complex shared that delays with construction, inspection and final approval have halted move-in.<\/p>\n

Since last week, the students have been staying at Hotel Indigo<\/a> in College Town, with expenses paid by the apartment owners.<\/p>\n

Students were informed last week<\/a> that the apartments would be ready for move-in on Friday, Aug. 28.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, Aug. 27, an e-mail was sent out, letting them know they\u2019d be moved to another hotel closer to campus.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re putting everybody farther for the next two days because of game day,\u201d FSU student Maryn Buchsbaum said. \u201cThen, they\u2019re moving us back here so we can walk to classes again.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBut, at least I have a car, because some of them are being moved to the capitol. The one by the capitol building, and they don\u2019t have a car.\u201d<\/p>\n

Buchsbaum said she was initially assigned a hotel on near Apalachee Parkway but was moved back to another location about four minutes away from campus by car.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve got a car full of stuff over there that I\u2019ve been moving back and forth: my clothes, my books, all of that sort of stuff,\u201d said Buchsbaum. \u201cSo, it\u2019s been difficult.\u201d<\/p>\n

The apartment owners have also offered the students help with transportation, as well as rental reimbursement for each day they\u2019re displaced.<\/p>\n

One student, who wanted to stay anonymous, said she\u2019s tired of the whole process.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have to go check in at another hotel that\u2019s 25 minutes away until 3 p.m.,\u201d said the student. \u201cIt\u2019s just extremely inconvenient. The management team still has no idea what\u2019s going on. This is really just like a whole mess.\u201d<\/p>\n

The new move-in date is now expected to be next week, according to Thursday\u2019s e-mail.<\/p>\n

Students said they still don\u2019t know what day that will be, and they\u2019re at their wits end.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we\u2019re not moved in by Friday, I think we\u2019re definitely looking at breaking our lease,\u201d said the anonymous student.<\/p>\n

The construction company building the Perla said they\u2019re still working with the property owner, City of Tallahassee, fire department and the owner\u2019s private inspector to ensure the building is safe to move in.<\/p>\n
