(CBS12) \u2014 A security guard at a South Florida immigration detention facility was arrested after surveillance video allegedly showed him taking more than $5,000 from a deportee.<\/p>\n<p>According to an arrest report obtained by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.local10.com\/news\/local\/2026\/08\/25\/krome-ice-facility-security-guard-stole-more-than-5000-from-detainee-deputies-say\/?utm_source=facebook&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=snd&amp;utm_content=wplg10&amp;fbclid=IwY2xjawT75sJwZG9mAWV4dG4DYWVtAjExAHNydGMGYXBwX2lkEDIyMjAzOTE3ODgyMDA4OTIAAR4fWzgqxV9vD0sIMPV40MjJK-BKyk1PB9nmA-18KQAdKb5Gi95CwT3BQhyIgg_aem_ul4vrHpsdqP9cGuyEwEFCA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Local10<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/cbs12.com\/search?find=Miami-Dade+Sheriff%27s+Office\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Miami-Dade Sheriff&#8217;s Office<\/a> deputies were called to <a href=\"https:\/\/cbs12.com\/search?find=Krome%20North%20Service%20Processing%20Center\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Krome North Service Processing Center<\/a> Monday afternoon after a detainee reported that $5,382 was missing.<\/p>\n<p>The detainee reportedly made the discovery while other staff were preparing paperwork for his deportation.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators reviewed surveillance video and allegedly saw 31-year-old Matthew Christian Torres, a security guard employed by Akima Protective Services, handle the money.<\/p>\n<p>See also: <a href=\"https:\/\/cbs12.com\/news\/local\/human-rights-watch-report-condemns-florida-detention-centers-for-inhumane-conditionskrome-detention-center-alligator-alcatraz-immigration-okeechopee-pompano-beach-july-22-2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Human Rights Watch report condemns Florida detention centers for inhumane conditions<\/a><\/p>\n<p>According to the report, Torres placed the cash inside a log book but did not record it. Deputies say he then concealed the money inside his jacket before entering an employee restroom.<\/p>\n<p>Deputies say the video later showed Torres return to a common area, remove a clear plastic bag containing the cash from his chest area and place it into the pocket of his beige cargo pants.<\/p>\n<p>The report states Torres never notified a supervisor that the money belonged to the detainee.<\/p>\n<p>Torres, who lives in Palmetto Bay, was arrested on one count of third-degree grand theft.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson from ICE responded to Local10&#8217;s request for comment, stating:<\/p>\n<p>ICE takes allegations of misconduct very seriously. We hold our personnel and contractors to the highest standards of professional and ethical behavior. When we receive a complaint, we investigate the matter thoroughly to determine its veracity, and to ensure strict compliance with the comprehensive standards that ICE is required to follow under various national detention standards.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>ICE also said allegations involving its personnel or contractors can be reported to the Department of Homeland Security Office of Inspector General or ICE&#8217;s Office of Professional Responsibility.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla.
