WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) \u2014 A South Florida man and Russian national was convicted on all counts after prosecutors said he helped illegally export nearly $1 million worth of U.S. aircraft parts to Russia and the state-owned airline Aeroflot.<\/p>\n
62-year-old Alexander Mamonov was found guilty after a federal trial in the Southern District of Florida.<\/p>\n
Prosecutors said Mamonov, a former Aeroflot employee who relocated from Russia to South Florida, conspired to acquire and ship more than $900,000 in aircraft parts to Russia and Aeroflot<\/a> after the U.S. tightened export restrictions following Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine.<\/p>\n According to court documents and testimony, Mamonov and his alleged co-conspirator, Ignat Vakorin, misled U.S. suppliers about where the aircraft parts were headed. They allegedly used destinations including the United Arab Emirates and China to conceal shipments ultimately bound for Russia.<\/p>\n See also: Violent stabbing leaves 1 dead, 3 injured in Lake Worth Beach<\/a><\/p>\n Mamonov was convicted of 12 counts, including conspiracy to violate the Export Control Reform Act<\/a>, illegally exporting items subject to the law, conspiracy to commit smuggling, smuggling goods, submitting false or misleading export information and conspiracy to commit money laundering.<\/p>\n \u201cRussia cannot evade American sanctions and export controls by routing its purchases through South Florida,\u201d U.S. Attorney Jason A. Reding Qui\u00f1ones<\/a> for the Southern District of Florida said. \u201cYou cannot put a fake destination on a shipping label and make American export laws disappear.\u201d<\/p>\n Federal prosecutors said Mamonov and Vakorin used false destinations and financial transactions to conceal the shipments.<\/p>\n
