Former Texas Longhorns<\/a> quarterback Quinn Ewers is moving to another Florida city<\/a>. The Miami Dolphins have traded the Southlake Carroll product<\/a> to the\u00a0Jacksonville Jaguars\u00a0for a 2028 sixth-round pick<\/a>.<\/p>\n Ewers was selected in the seventh round of the 2025<\/a> NFL Draft by the Dolphins<\/a>. The Texas product made three starts during his rookie season, posting a 1-2 record while completing 66.3% of his passes for 622 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions.<\/p>\n It was expected that Ewers would open the 2026 NFL season as Miami’s top backup behind\u00a0Malik Willis. Instead, the Dolphins will most likely turn to second-year quarterback\u00a0Cam Miller<\/a> or undrafted rookie\u00a0Mark Gronowski<\/a>.<\/p>\n Ewers will now battle Nick Mullens<\/a>\u00a0to be the primary backup behind\u00a0Trevor Lawrence<\/a>\u00a0in Jacksonville. The Jags have reportedly been “quietly” calling around on backup quarterbacks, not happy with the shaky play of Lawrence’s backups this preseason.<\/p>\n The Dolphins weren’t happy with Ewers development either according to Dolphins Wire.<\/p>\n Need a news break? That trend continued in the preseason. He only played in one game, threw an interception, got hurt, and didn’t appear again. While he was the favorite to be the team’s backup in 2026 at the start of the offseason, it became evident quickly that he might not make the roster, which is saying something because the other contenders for the job weren’t any better.” – Mike Masala of\u00a0Dolphins Wire<\/a><\/p>\n According to Jags Wire<\/a>, There are a couple ways Ewers could be used.<\/p>\n “There are two paths the Jaguars<\/a> could go down. With Ewers being a 2025 seventh-round pick, the Jaguars could keep Mullens and have Ewers be the third quarterback on the roster in a developmental role. Or with Mullens’ play being up and down for much of the year, perhaps the Jaguars put Ewers right into the backup role.
