The iconic two-piece band concept conjures the picture of idealized rock rawness. But The Imposters \u2014 a staggeringly high-functioning duo who\u2019ve collaborated with King Crimson\u2019s Tony Levin, Zappa, Porcupine Tree, Stereolab and Natalie Merchant Band \u2014 shatter that image. <\/p>\n

Much of it is through their use of the Chapman Stick \u2014 a marvel of an instrument played by fretboard tapping that handles melodies, chords and bass lines all at once. (Take that, Eddie Van Halen.) With the Chapman Stick and a sense of daring, The Imposters tap untold dimensions with improv-heavy excursions that push prog-rock to jazz heights. <\/p>\n
