HOBE SOUND — Staff at Project Lift locations in Belle Glade, Hobe Sound and Fort Pierce will be better prepared to respond to cardiac emergencies after receiving automated external defibrillators, CPR training equipment and cardiac emergency response plans through the American Heart Association with support from TBC Corporation.

Project Lift provides free vocational training for at-risk teens and young adults, along with mental health counseling and mentoring.

Cardiac emergency response plans or CERPS provide a coordinated, practiced response to cardiac emergencies, with teams trained and empowered to provide lifesaving care until emergency medical services (EMS) arrive.

The American Heart Association works with schools and other organizations to implement CERPs designed to enhance the safety of students, staff and visitors.

Each year, more than 350,000 people in the United States experience cardiac arrest outside of a hospital. Survival more than doubles when people nearby call 911, start CPR and use a publicly available AED compared with waiting for emergency responders to arrive.

“Survival depends on regular people stepping up and not just being willing to do CPR — knowing how to do it,” says Stacey Comerford, executive director for the Heart Association’s Palm Beach County office. “We are so pleased to equip the Project Lift staff to be part of the Chain of Survival.”

TBC Corporation, an automotive services marketer headquartered in Palm Beach Gardens, is proud to serve as the American Heart Association’s local Nation of Lifesavers sponsor. Giving back to the communities it serves is a core value of TBC.

“We are always honored to support the health of our community anyway we can,” says Kami Batchelder, the community relations senior manager for TBC Corporation. “And because we know cardiac arrest can happen at any time, we are pleased to support the American Heart Association in its mission to empower people to respond when it matters most.”
