ST. PETE BEACH, Fla. \u2013 St. Pete Beach city officials have ended an on-demand shuttle service.<\/p>\n

The Freebee service<\/a>\u00a0provides rides within St. Pete Beach.<\/p>\n

Freebee has been operating in St. Pete Beach for nearly seven years<\/a> and replaced the PSTA buses and trolleys which drove into Pass-a-Grille. The city commission decided it couldn\u2019t afford to continue the service.<\/p>\n

At their meeting last week, commissioners said the city is still hurting financially from the 2024 hurricanes and so they’re looking for ways to cut funding.<\/p>\n

However, a formal vote was not held.<\/p>\n

This isn’t the only public transportation on the chopping block along the beach.<\/p>\n

Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority<\/a> also is considering cutting Route 90 which provides bus rides from the beach to the mainland.<\/p>\n

PSTA officials said the service would continue at least through the rest of this year while staff closer examines ridership and cost factors.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"ST.
