{"id":387683,"date":"2026-09-01T23:58:10","date_gmt":"2026-09-01T23:58:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/387683\/"},"modified":"2026-09-01T23:58:10","modified_gmt":"2026-09-01T23:58:10","slug":"fsu-shooting-victim-files-lawsuit-against-universitys-board-of-trustees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/387683\/","title":{"rendered":"FSU shooting victim files lawsuit against university&#8217;s board of trustees"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LEON COUNTY, FL (WTXL) \u2014 A grad student injured during the mass shooting at Florida State University has sued the Florida State University Board of Trustees.<\/p>\n<p>According to the complaint, Madison Askins has filed a lawsuit for injuries and damages sustained during the shooting on April 17, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit accuses the Florida State University Board of Trustees of negligent security on the premises.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wtxl.com\/news\/local-news\/fsu-shooting-victims-sue-openai-sam-altman-over-chatgpts-alleged-role-in-attack-planning\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Askins is also one of the parties named in a lawsuit<\/a> against OpenAI for punitive damages related to its use by the suspect in the shooting.<\/p>\n<p>On April 17, 2025, suspected gunman <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wtxl.com\/news\/local-news\/fsu-shooting-suspected-gunman-phoenix-ikner-makes-first-in-person-court-appearance\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Phoenix Ikner<\/a> reportedly shot eight people on the university&#8217;s Tallahassee campus.
