{"id":389431,"date":"2026-09-03T17:22:54","date_gmt":"2026-09-03T17:22:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/389431\/"},"modified":"2026-09-03T17:22:54","modified_gmt":"2026-09-03T17:22:54","slug":"united-way-miami-meets-with-community-leaders-to-encourage-higher-education-for-students-in-south-florida-wsvn-7news-miami-news-weather-sports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/389431\/","title":{"rendered":"United Way Miami meets with community leaders to encourage higher education for students in South Florida &#8211; WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">MIAMI (WSVN) &#8211; Community leaders came together to encourage higher education for students in South Florida.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">United Way Miami met with leaders from other organizations on Wednesday, as more and more high school seniors opt against pursuing a college education.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among those students who do, said United Way Miami President and CEO Symeria Hudson, some fail to complete financial aid applications and leave millions of dollars unclaimed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe know right here in Miami-Dade County that we are leaving over $27 million of Pell grant money on the table that students and people can take advantage of today,\u201d said Hudson.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to organizers, if 1,500 more Miami-Dade students continued their education past high school, the county would see $1 billion extra in valued growth.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 Sunbeam Television Corp.
