\u201cWe went from a very nice Mercedes to a Ferrari that can hit 0 to 60 in 3.5 seconds,\u201d MacLaughlin told Refresh Miami.<\/p>\n
MacLaughlin will stay with the combined company as chief AI officer. The deal gives DeLorean AI, a South Florida healthcare technology company, access to WellStack\u2019s larger team, client base and data platform. Financial terms have not been disclosed.<\/p>\n
The acquisition followed a partnership between the two companies that lasted several years. WellStack had served as the data platform provider for some shared clients, giving both teams a chance to work together before discussing a deal.<\/p>\n
WellStack CEO Rich Waller said that history helped the transaction come together smoothly.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve partnered with DeLorean for the last couple of years and have really enjoyed working with Sev and his team. We also served as the data platform provider for several joint clients,\u201d Waller said.<\/p>\n
WellStack helps healthcare groups collect information from systems that often do not communicate well with each other. DeLorean AI analyzes that information to predict risks, including which patients may develop a disease or require hospital care. It can then suggest steps for medical teams.<\/p>\n
The companies believe combining those functions will help clients move past reports about prior events and act on signs of what may happen next. MacLaughlin said the system could let healthcare teams study present data while looking 30 or 60 days ahead.<\/p>\n
The added scale could also bring DeLorean AI\u2019s tools to smaller medical groups. MacLaughlin said WellStack\u2019s systems would allow a practice with two doctors to use the same type of AI available to a major hospital.<\/p>\n

Data access has often limited that work. Hospitals, private practices and other care groups may use different electronic medical record systems. Bringing their information together can be costly and slow. WellStack\u2019s platform is meant to create one source of data on which its AI systems can operate.<\/p>\n
Waller also sees room for DeLorean AI\u2019s models outside direct patient care. The combined team plans to apply them to revenue, costs, patient flow and other operating needs.<\/p>\n
WellStack now has more than 70 employees and over 10 open positions, Waller said. South Florida will be one of its preferred areas for hiring and client growth.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe spend a lot of time in South Florida, and it\u2019s definitely a preferred area both for team members as well as current and future clients,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019re excited to continue to invest in the area.\u201d<\/p>\n
That local focus could extend to rural parts of Florida, where smaller hospitals and practices have had less access to costly data systems. Both leaders said recent gains in AI had made it possible to offer tools once limited to large health systems at a smaller scale.<\/p>\n
The next product update is already in the works. Waller said WellStack plans to release new process intelligence features during the next quarter. The system is expected to help healthcare teams map the steps patients take through care, spot when they move off the expected path and predict future changes.<\/p>\n
Still, MacLaughlin said the reason for doing that work remained personal. \u201cWe\u2019re big believers that if you do the right thing for the patient, everything else falls in line.\u201d<\/p>\n
For MacLaughlin, the outcome is measured in time: another birthday, a grandmother attending a graduation or an extra day with family. The company may be changing owners, but he said its goal remained \u201cmore hugs for our patients.\u201d<\/p>\n
