One recently common practice from fans at training camp should be reconsidered based off this detail from Miami Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley.

The margins of success in the NFL are razor-thin. It’s often why you see coaches go to great lengths to sustain any possible competitive advantage they can get. For the Miami Dolphins in 2026, competitive advantages may be tough to come by unless they come from the scheme.

But Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley recently dished on a surreal detail about training camps and competitive advantages. It’s a note that should have fans thinking twice about a practice that has become all too common, despite signage at training camp facilities across the league. We’re talking about filming and posting practice reps.

Miami Dolphins Jeff Hafley’s surprising detail should have fans questioning their training camp habits

“I didn’t really think about it as much until we hired Kevin Patullo, and he told me that before we played them in Brazil, he had half my pressures on tape from training camp. From people (fans) who videoed it and put it online — Twitter, etc. And then, I remember we had a pressure that I had never run, so there’s no way he could have known about it, and they knew it was coming. He said they saw that pressure on video. Yeah, it’s kind of disappointing, but at the same time I’m not really sure what you can do about it.”

That’s a surreal revelation. Yet the thirst for football content among the masses by late July is so extreme that any new content is sure to draw a crowd. That’s why you see accounts finding ways to capture video of reps from a public practice. You don’t have to give the dopamine back from a few thousand impressions on Twitter! Perhaps this is yet another reason why Hafley kept things so vanilla throughout their joint practices this summer. That’s speculative on my part — but I’m sure it doesn’t hurt to play things close to the vest while prying eyes and intrusive smartphones watch you break the huddle. Hafley’s certainly learned about this challenge the hard way.
