{"id":390345,"date":"2026-09-04T14:16:22","date_gmt":"2026-09-04T14:16:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/390345\/"},"modified":"2026-09-04T14:16:22","modified_gmt":"2026-09-04T14:16:22","slug":"public-weighs-in-ahead-of-vote-on-south-howard-flood-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/390345\/","title":{"rendered":"Public weighs in ahead of vote on South Howard flood project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TAMPA, Fla. \u2014 The Tampa City Council will take a final vote on the South Howard Flood Relief Project in two weeks.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday night, residents got to share their thoughts with city leaders about those plans during public comments.<\/p>\n<p>The city is considering spending $92.7 million on a culvert to redirect stormwater and relieve floodwaters that plague parts of South Tampa.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The project would\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/baynews9.com\/fl\/tampa\/news\/2026\/08\/12\/tampa-reviews-south-howard-flood-relief-designs-with-residents-businesses\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">install a 6,000-foot box culvert along Howard Avenue<\/a>\u00a0from Bayshore Boulevard to Swann Avenue before turning west to an AMI pond\u00a0(located in the Palma Ceia Pines neighborhood near the HCA Florida South Tampa Hospital parking deck).<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s been a big back and forth here because businesses worry about the construction impact on their locations and their bottom lines.<\/p>\n<p>But some residents feel the project is necessary and would fix flooding issues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur neighborhood\u2019s flooded four times in the last 34 days,\u201d said South Tampa resident David Adams. \u201cAnd when I say flooded, I\u2019m not talking about just a couple of inches on the road.
