TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A second Florida State University student who was shot after a gunman opened fire on campus in April 2025 is suing the university, according to new court documents.<\/p>\n
The court records dated September 4 reveal that FSU student Elizabeth Mall is suing the university, alleging that she was shot during the campus shooting on April 17, 2025 \u201cdue to inadequate and negligent security.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mall was one of several people injured during the shooting after accused gunman Phoenix Ikner opened fire on Florida State\u2019s campus inside and outside the Student Union back in April 2025<\/a>, the records revealed. <\/p>\n The tragic incident also claimed the lives of two men<\/a>. <\/p>\n More Tallahassee News<\/p>\n The lawsuit went on to say that as a result of the university\u2019s alleged negligence, Mall \u201csuffered bodily injury including a permanent injury to the body as a whole,\u201d \u201cand\/or aggravation of a pre-existing condition,\u201d \u201cmental anguish\u201d and more. <\/p>\n The student\u2019s lawsuit comes just a few days after a student by the name of Madison Askins also sued the university<\/a>, alleging the same negligence and injuries.<\/p>\n Both Mall and Askins have also filed federal lawsuits against OpenAI<\/a>, saying the company\u2019s ChatGPT product lacks safeguards that could have prevented the shooting.
