Two Cape Coral friends bound together through their love of books

"BrittCAPE CORAL, Fla. —

Inside Flutterbuy Books and More, nearly every story imaginable lives.

“I always said, I’m going to go to heaven and it’ll be a big library in the sky,” said Donna Baker.

Her story starts with a love of books. Donna works at Flutterbuy twice a week, but her boss, Lilian Till, remembers the days Donna owned her own shop.

“She had books on the floor, which drives me insane,” said Lilian. “So I helped organize her bookstore when we first met.”

Back then, Donna was Lilian’s boss, but not much has changed.

“The same as when I worked under her; she’s still the boss,” laughed Lilian.

But, as they both know, no story is complete without its twists and turns.

“The next day the ceiling fell in, so we had to get all the books out,” said Donna.

After Hurricane Ian, Donna was forced to close her shop. That’s when Lilian decided to start a new chapter.

“I’m going to take over the bookstore! She’s like, good, here you go,” said Lilian.

So, while some stories end, others are passed down.

“That’s what she’s doing,” said Donna. “She’s carrying on what I started. She’s my little baby.”

And while not every tale has a happy ending, these two found one worth writing, together.

“Being able to share your life and your experiences and also provide other people their life and their experiences, it’s like love,” said Lilian.
