TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Three people, including a 15-year-old accused of firing into an occupied vehicle, have been arrested after a shooting in a mall parking garage just before 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5, the Tallahassee Police Department said.

Police said a “swift and thorough investigation” determined that 15-year-old Marvin Gilkes was in the parking garage when he fired at a vehicle occupied by people involved in an earlier altercation with him inside the mall. During the shooting, an uninvolved vehicle occupied by a family was also hit by gunfire, police said. No one in either vehicle was injured.

As the investigation continued, TPD’s Violent Crime Response Team quickly located Gilkes and other individuals at an address within the city limits, where they were taken into custody without incident, police said. Officers recovered multiple firearms, including firearms reported stolen, as well as illegal drugs during the investigation, according to TPD.

Gilkes was charged with discharging a firearm at an occupied conveyance, possession of a firearm by a delinquent and four counts of probation violation, police said.

Ronderick Troupe, 18, was charged with possession of more than 20 grams of cannabis, possession of a machine gun and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to TPD. A 14-year-old was also arrested for violation of probation, police said.

“This investigation reflects the dedication and persistence of our Violent Crime Response Team detectives, CIB detectives and patrol officers,” Chief Lawrence Revell said. “Violent crime can have a devastating impact on victims and our community as a whole.
