GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) \u2014 University of Florida leaders are discussing plans for what they describe as the most powerful supercomputer in higher education, designed to prepare students and educators for an artificial intelligence-driven future.<\/p>\n
UF Board of Trustees Chair Mori Hosseini joined Interim University President Donald Landry and Congresswoman Kat Cammack to unveil the fourth-generation \u201cHiPerGator\u201d supercomputer during a Tuesday announcement event.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is also protecting lives everyday, preserving resources, feeding the world, improving health outcomes, and making Florida stronger, safer, and very prepared for tomorrow,\u201d Hosseini said.<\/p>\n
University leaders said the supercomputer represents part of their broader initiative to integrate AI as a core component of education, spanning from college classrooms to local schools throughout the region.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is one of our very large departments, that sprang virtually overnight, with the idea of transforming every part of this university into a playground for AI,\u201d said Landry.<\/p>\n
The HiPerGator supercomputer project is supported by a partnership with technology company NVIDIA. Co-founder Chris Malachowsky, a UF alumnus, has helped the university obtain hardware, software, training, and services.<\/p>\n
