There are plenty who know how to make promises when an election is around the corner. But every once in a while, you find an elected official who understands that the job is not about talking—it is about showing up, going to work and fighting for the people who sent you there. Senator Ileana Garcia is that kind of public servant. She has built a record of being involved in the issues that matter to Miami-Dade families, children, seniors, businesses and neighborhoods. She understands our community because she is part of it, and she has taken that understanding to Tallahassee and made sure Miami-Dade has a voice in the decisions that affect our future.

Garcia has never limited herself to one issue or one neighborhood. She has worked on programs supporting children in foster care, seniors and economically disadvantaged residents. She has supported efforts to make our streets and neighborhoods safer for children and pedestrians. She has fought for South Florida’s environment and coastal resiliency at a time when protecting our coastline and marine environment is not some distant concern—it is a Miami-Dade necessity. These are the kinds of issues that sometimes don’t make the biggest political headlines, but they make a difference in people’s lives. And that is what we should be demanding from our elected officials: not headlines, but results and hard work.

Her position in the Florida Senate also gives Miami-Dade something extremely important—a seat at the table where major decisions are made. Garcia serves as chair of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Criminal and Civil Justice and as vice chair of Children, Families and Elder Affairs. Those are serious responsibilities. They put her in a position to have a meaningful voice on public safety, the justice system, children, families and seniors, while also giving her the ability to fight for the resources our community needs. When Miami-Dade sends a senator to Tallahassee, we don’t need someone who simply votes and goes home. We need someone who understands how the system works and is willing to use every bit of influence she has to make sure our community is not forgotten.

And let’s be honest about Miami-Dade. We are a complicated, growing and demanding community. We have traffic problems, housing pressures, public-safety concerns, environmental challenges and families working harder than ever to make ends meet. Our elected officials need to understand that government decisions in Tallahassee have consequences right here at home. A decision about funding can determine whether a community gets the resources it needs. A decision about public safety can affect whether a family feels safe in its own neighborhood. A decision about the environment can affect the future of our coastline. That is why having someone who knows Miami-Dade and is willing to fight for Miami-Dade matters.

We have watched politics long enough to know that no elected official gets everything right and no elected official will agree with every voter on every issue. That isn’t the test. The test is whether the person works. Does she show up? Does she listen? Does she fight? Does she understand the community? Does she take the responsibility seriously? In our view, Ileana Garcia has earned a yes to those questions. She has demonstrated that she wants to be more than a name on a ballot. She wants to be a senator who is involved in the community and who takes Miami-Dade’s priorities with her when she goes to Tallahassee.

We also believe experience matters. Garcia has been in the Florida Senate since 2020, and that experience gives her something a first-term politician simply cannot have: relationships, knowledge of the process and an understanding of how to move an issue forward. Miami-Dade doesn’t need to start over every election cycle. We need people who know how to get things done and who can walk into the Capitol already understanding the people, the process and the priorities. Garcia has earned that experience, and our community benefits from it.

So this is not an endorsement based on a campaign slogan. It is not based on a handshake or a television commercial. It is based on what we believe matters most: a record of service and a willingness to keep fighting for the community. Ileana Garcia has demonstrated that she cares about the people she represents and that she understands the responsibility that comes with holding public office. She has worked for children. She has worked for families. She has worked for seniors. She has worked on public safety and the environment. And she continues to put herself in positions where she can have a real impact on the issues facing Miami-Dade.

That is the kind of senator we want representing us.

Miami Community Newspapers strongly supports and endorses Senator Ileana Garcia.

We believe she has earned our support because she has earned the respect that comes from doing the job. We believe Miami-Dade needs her experience, her energy and her willingness to fight. And we believe she deserves the opportunity to continue representing our community in Tallahassee.

Elections are about choices. Voters have to decide who they trust to speak for them when they aren’t in the room. Our choice is Ileana Garcia.

She knows Miami-Dade.

She fights for Miami-Dade.

And she has earned our endorsement.

We are proud to stand with Senator Ileana Garcia.

Connect To Your Customers & Grow Your Business

There are a lot of politicians who know how to talk.
