Attorney General James Uthmeier<\/a> is detailing the conviction of a Southwest Florida man on multiple counts of possessing child sexual abuse materials.<\/p>\n

Eduardo Antonio Arango Ruiz was found guilty of 20 felony charges of possession, control or intentional viewing of child sexual abuse material following a Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE<\/a>) investigation. The 70-year-old Arango Ruiz was convicted of possessing numerous electronic files of children being sexually abused.<\/p>\n

The investigation started in Lake County in July 2025 where Sheriff\u2019s officials there were looking into a peer-to-peer file-sharing network online. They discovered someone was providing access and downloads of images of children being sexually abused. The origin of the material was traced to the Cape Coral residence of Arango Ruiz.<\/p>\n

In August of 2025, FDLE special agents teamed up with Cape Coral Police Department investigators and executed a search warrant at Arango Ruiz\u2019s home. Multiple computers and storage devices containing the illegal images were found, Uthmeier said in a news release<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Arango Ruiz was found guilty of 20 felony counts after a jury in the 20th Judicial Circuit<\/a> in Fort Myers deliberated for about an hour.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis predator is facing decades behind bars, which is right where he belongs,\u201d Uthmeier said.<\/p>\n

Arango Ruiz is set for sentencing on Oct. 5. The minimum sentence for the convictions is 35 years, though Uthmeier said he could face up to a combined 300-year sentence in prison.<\/p>\n

Uthmeier has made child predator prosecutions one of the centerpieces of his office since he was appointed to the post last year by Gov. Ron DeSantis. He\u2019s been involved in dozens of child sexual abuse cases in the past year and a half and has publicized many of those cases in numerous news conferences throughout the state.<\/p>\n

Uthmeier even filed a lawsuit<\/a> against social media platforms he alleges enabled child predators.<\/p>\n
