Moments after an Amazon cargo jet overshot a Miami runway and careened into multiple vehicles \u2014 killing five people and injuring five others on Sunday \u2014 one of the pilots reportedly exclaimed his career was over while visibly distressed outside the fiery wreck. <\/a><\/p>\n

The two pilots, identified Tuesday as Felipe Silva Molina, 37, and Joseph Carroll, 55, escaped the crash with minor injuries while five people across two vehicles that were struck by the jet died, according to NTSB Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy and CBS<\/a>.<\/p>\n

One of the pilots borrowed a Miami International Airport employee\u2019s phone to call his wife and let her know he was OK. <\/p>\n

\u201cHe was shaking and a little injured in his forehead and his hand,\u201d Abraham Altamar, who was working at a nearby building at the airport when he witnessed the crash, told CBS about the pilot.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI was like, \u2018Hey, you want me to call 911?\u2019 He\u2019s like, \u2018No, we already called them.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Altamar gave the pilot his phone to contact his wife, to whom he said that he was unhurt.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust tell my mom that I was in the accident, but I\u2019m already out of the plane, that I\u2019m good,\u201d the pilot said on the phone, according to the airport staffer. <\/p>\n

Despite his composure, the pilot was visibly upset and reportedly told his wife, \u201cMy career is over,\u201d Altamar said. <\/p>\n

Altamar said that the crash was \u201csurreal\u201d and \u201cscary\u201d to witness.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not immediately clear which pilot \u2014 Carroll or Silva Molina \u2014 he was assisting.<\/p>\n

According to their LinkedIn profiles, Carroll<\/a> serves as a captain with 21 Air, while Silva Molina<\/a> is a first officer.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Federal investigators probing the fatal Amazon cargo jet crash are focusing on whether the plane landed too late<\/a> to stop safely on the runway.<\/p>\n

Homendy called the carnage that tore open a van<\/a> carrying seven people \u201cutter devastation.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI would describe it in one word as devastating,\u201d she told reporters at a press conference, \u201cutter devastation.\u201d<\/p>\n

The collision happened just before 2 p.m. Sunday, when Prime Air flight 7598 \u2014 a Boeing 767 operated by 21 Air\u00a0 \u2014 was landing in Miami from Puerto Rico, and careened off the runway before plowing into \u201cmultiple vehicles\u201d and bursting into flames, officials said.<\/p>\n
