ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Classes are scheduled to resume Wednesday at St. Pete Catholic High School after a fire broke out on a building’s roof yesterday afternoon following a lightning strike.<\/p>\n
There were no injuries reported.<\/p>\n
According to St. Pete Fire Rescue, the fire broke out at the school\u2019s gymnasium just after 3:30 p.m. School officials said the volleyball team was practicing in the gym when the fire broke out.<\/p>\n
Authorities said there is some smoke and water damage inside the building but most of the damage is to the roof.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt’s scary and you know, lightning happens,\u201d said Allison Munden, the Director of Communications, Diocese of St. Petersburg. \u201cPeople think that it, you know, lightning would never strike my building or my home. But these things do happen.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat’s why it’s so important to listen to protocol and take things seriously. Stay inside shelter in place. Um, and we’re just so glad that no one was hurt.
