Family members on Tuesday said they have recovered the bodies of an elderly\u00a0couple and their grandchildren who were aboard a small plane that vanished<\/a>\u00a0near the Bahamas.<\/p>\n

Officials said four people were aboard the Piper PA-34 aircraft that departed after 10 a.m. on Monday from the Great Harbour Cay Airport and lost contact while on its way to Miami Executive Airport.<\/p>\n

They had all spent the weekend at a second home the family owns in Great Harbour Cay and were returning to South Florida when their plane vanished, family members said.<\/p>\n

Here’s what we know about the victims. <\/p>\n

Mario Lamar<\/p>\n

Mario Lamar, 80, was flying the plane with his family aboard, relatives said. <\/p>\n

“Mario Lamar, an experienced pilot with more than 40 years of flying experience, was piloting the aircraft with his wife, Lili, and grandchildren, Christian and Sofi, on board. The aircraft took off from Great Harbour Cay at approximately 10:12 a.m., bound for Miami Executive Airport, and its last recorded contact occurred around 11:04 a.m., near the western side of Andros Island,” the family said in a statement.<\/p>\n

“My uncle is a lifelong, very experienced pilot, and they were departing business as usual, like he’s done his entire life,” Silvi Larreau, Mario Lamar’s niece, told NBC6.<\/p>\n

According to the Florida Bar, Lamar is a licensed attorney who was admitted to the bar in 1973. He also has a law office in Miami.<\/p>\n

Lili Lamar<\/p>\n

Lili Lamar, 79, was the wife of Mario Lamar. Her grandchildren, Sofia and Christian Sosa, were also aboard the plane.<\/p>\n

Sofia Sosa<\/p>\n

Sofia Sosa, who went by Sofi, was the granddaughter of Mario and Lili Lamar and the sister of Christian Sosa. She was 28.<\/p>\n

Her body was the first to be recovered by her relatives, who searched the waters near the Bahamas in private vessels, according to family members. <\/p>\n

“At this time, one of our family members has been found deceased,” the family said at the time. “What is especially devastating is that a civilian, one of our own family members, was the person who located our loved one and had to bring their deceased relative onto their own boat. We are heartbroken and desperate.”<\/p>\n

Her LinkedIn says she was working as a neonatal physician assistant with Kidz Medical in Coral Gables at the time of her death. <\/p>\n

Sofi Sosa graduated in 2016 from Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart, a Catholic, all-girls high school in Coconut Grove, according to the school. <\/p>\n

“As the Carrollton community, especially our alumnae family, we continue to hold in our hearts and prayers those affected by yesterday’s tragedy,” the school shared in an Instagram story, followed by the names of the deceased. “We ask that, out of respect and care for those involved, we honor the family’s privacy during this difficult time. May we remain united as the community of Christ’s Heart in prayer and support.”<\/p>\n

Christian Sosa<\/p>\n

Christian Sosa, 22, was the youngest family member aboard the small plane. <\/p>\n

According to his LinkedIn, he is a freelance photographer who graduated from the M-School at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. <\/p>\n

In a post on LinkedIn from August, Christian said he had the opportunity to work as a freelance photographer for the Los Angeles Rams last season.<\/p>\n

\u201cGetting to shoot in the NFL was surreal,\u201d he said in the post. \u201cIt\u2019s the job my younger self dreamed about when I spent summers in Miami shooting training camps as a fan.\u201d<\/p>\n

He was identified by his sister’s alma mater as a graduate of Ransom Everglades School, an exclusive private high school in Coconut Grove. He reportedly graduated from there in 2022. <\/p>\n
