This year\u2019s theme, \u201cSpectrum of Hope: Every Color, Every Cure,\u201d is intended to recognize people affected by many different forms of cancer rather than focusing on a single diagnosis.<\/p>\n
About 175 people are expected to attend the event, which will feature food sampling, live entertainment, educational resources, raffles, a silent auction and personal stories.<\/p>\n
Helping patients get to medical care<\/p>\n
One of the programs supported by Petals of Hope is its Transport-to-Care Fund, created with AdventHealth in 2015.<\/p>\n
The program helps Greater Orlando patients who need transportation to medical appointments and have limited resources or family support.<\/p>\n
Petals of Hope says it has contributed approximately $70,000 toward the transportation program since it began.<\/p>\n
Supporting Central Florida communities<\/p>\n
Petals of Hope Foundation was established in 2012 and serves as the charitable arm of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated \u2013 Delta Omicron Omega Chapter.<\/p>\n
The organization says more than 240 members contribute more than 5,000 hours of community service each year.<\/p>\n
Its work also includes education, food insecurity programs, school-supply donations, health awareness and scholarships. The foundation says it has awarded more than $150,000 in scholarships to help students with post-secondary education costs.<\/p>\n
The organization does not receive government funding and relies on donations and volunteer service.<\/p>\n

Taste the Hope begins at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, at the Crystal Ballroom, 1012 State Road 436 in Altamonte Springs.<\/p>\n
