National Public Lands Day was originally established in 1994 and is observed each year on the fourth Saturday of September. It is described as the nation’s largest single-day volunteer event and celebration for public lands such as parks, trails and historic sites.

Several state parks host official National Public Lands Day events that commonly include cleanups, invasive plant removal and building maintenance, along with guided tours and educational experiences.

The Florida State Parks Foundation was founded in 1993 as Friends of Florida State Parks and renamed in 2018. It is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation that supports the Florida Park Service, state parks and trails, local Friends groups and more than 20,000 park volunteers. The foundation said its work includes programs focused on preservation and protection, visitor education, community engagement and advocacy. All projects are completed by the Florida State Parks Foundation Services LLC, a limited liability company affiliate of the foundation.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Beer lovers will soon be able to raise a glass for Florida’s state parks.
