GADSDEN COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) – Construction is now underway on a major road safety project in Midway.<\/p>\n
City leaders, along with the Florida Department of Transportation, held a groundbreaking today at the intersection of U.S. Highway 90 and Dover Road. <\/p>\n
The $8 million project will realign Dover Road with Martin Luther King Boulevard and add a new traffic light. <\/p>\n
Crews will also add turn lane improvements, new sidewalks, better lighting, drainage upgrades and resurface the road.<\/p>\n
Drivers can expect delays and are urged to use extra caution in the construction zone. <\/p>\n

City leaders say the goal is to ease congestion and cut down on crashes at one of Midway\u2019s busiest intersections.<\/p>\n
City Councilman Charles Williams said this light is long overdue. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s very important for this location because we\u2019ve had some tragic accidents here over the years, over a number of years, and this should have been done a long time ago,\u201d Williams said. \u201cLet\u2019s hope that this traffic light will prevent accidents of that sort and others of that nature from happening again.\u201d<\/p>\n
