{"id":395311,"date":"2026-09-10T00:26:09","date_gmt":"2026-09-10T00:26:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/395311\/"},"modified":"2026-09-10T00:26:09","modified_gmt":"2026-09-10T00:26:09","slug":"judge-florida-nurse-who-slammed-leavitt-on-tiktok-should-get-fine-reprimand","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/395311\/","title":{"rendered":"Judge: Florida nurse who slammed Leavitt on TikTok should get fine, reprimand"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">TALLAHASSEE, Fla. \u2013 An administrative law judge has recommended the Florida Department of Health reprimand and fine a nurse who posted a TikTok disparaging former White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">In January 2026, Lexie Lawler, a labor and delivery nurse in Boca Raton, recorded and posted on TikTok a video in which she wished Leavitt, who was pregnant, a gruesome and difficult birth experience.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">\u201cAs a labor and delivery nurse, it gives me great joy to wish Karoline Leavitt a fourth-degree tear,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clickorlando.com\/news\/florida\/2026\/01\/29\/i-hope-you-f-rip-florida-nurse-loses-license-over-viral-tiktok-video\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.clickorlando.com\/news\/florida\/2026\/01\/29\/i-hope-you-f-rip-florida-nurse-loses-license-over-viral-tiktok-video\/\">Lawler said in her public video<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">The video went viral after Chaya Raichik, a right-wing commentator who posts on social media under the moniker \u201cLibs of TikTok,\u201d disseminated it. Several Republican leaders also weighed in, including Attorney General James Uthmeier, who said: \u201cThe Florida Board of Nursing should yank this vile person\u2019s license, immediately. She doesn\u2019t belong anywhere near patients.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">[CAUTION: Video below features explicit language]<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Being fired isn\u2019t good enough. Any healthcare worker who fails to uphold his or her obligation to provide adequate, safe healthcare should not be licensed in Florida. <\/p>\n<p>No excuses! <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/xbke5PVZoX\" rel=\"nofollow\">https:\/\/t.co\/xbke5PVZoX<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Attorney General James Uthmeier (@AGJamesUthmeier) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AGJamesUthmeier\/status\/2016244226757972192?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">January 27, 2026<\/a> <\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">Days later, DOH suspended her license with an emergency order for unprofessional conduct, which includes \u201cusing abusive, threatening or foul language in front of a patient or directing such language toward a patient.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">At the time, Lawler was employed by Baptist Health Boca Raton Regional Hospital, but lost her job due to the suspension of her license. In the 12 years she\u2019s been a licensed registered nurse, she had never been disciplined by the Board of Nursing, the order states.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">In his Sept. 1 recommended order, Judge Robert Cohen with the Florida Division of Administrative Hearings said the Board of Nursing should reprimand Lawler, fine her $250, undergo continuing education to include a course on social media use and, if available, pay back the costs of investigation and prosecution of the case.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">In his recommendation, Cohen wrote Lawler \u201chas learned from this experience, a costly one in terms of her losing her employment of many years with Baptist Health,\u201d and therefore \u201ca penalty at the low end of the range should be imposed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">Julie Gallagher, Lawler\u2019s attorney, told the News Service of Florida she would be filing exceptions to the recommended order.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">\u201cWe\u2019re disappointed in the decision because the rule she was charged under required the foul language to be said in front of the patient or directed at a patient, and no one who was a patient saw it, and in our view they didn\u2019t prove she said those comments directed to a patient or in front of a patient,\u201d Gallagher said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">Cohen, however, said \u201cit would be absurd\u201d to interpret the rule in a way that requires the statement must be said personally in front of a patient, and Lawler was \u201chiding behind the internet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">Posting the video privately or sending it to close family and friends would have changed the complexion of the case, Cohen added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-dLMFU sc-fHjqPf jbiTJv kYFPaL article-text\">\u201cAs an experienced labor and delivery nurse, she knew exactly what she was wishing upon Ms. Leavitt, and it was something pretty horrific for any woman experiencing labor and delivery, whether the White House press secretary or a regular mom presenting herself to a hospital hoping and praying for a routine and uneventful labor and delivery,\u201d Cohen wrote.<\/p>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"TALLAHASSEE, Fla. \u2013 An administrative law judge has recommended the Florida Department of Health reprimand and fine a&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":395312,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[6],"tags":[1107,28,30,29,571,99],"class_list":["post-395311","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-florida","tag-courts","tag-florida","tag-florida-headlines","tag-florida-news","tag-health","tag-politics"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/395311","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=395311"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/395311\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/395312"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=395311"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=395311"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=395311"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
