According to the Orange County Sheriff\u2019s Office, Rose was on her way to a friend\u2019s apartment on July 4, 2024. <\/p>\n
Before going upstairs, investigators said the teen was grabbed by 30-year-old Jerry Dorisme and stabbed in the torso in the first-floor storage closet.<\/p>\n
Dorisme was arrested seven days later and charged with first-degree murder. He was identified on surveillance video by several community members and his father.<\/p>\n
Records obtained by Channel 9, reveal a community member called in a tip after recognizing Dorisme at a bus stop on Silver Star Road in Orange County. <\/p>\n
Deputies located Dorisme swimming in a pool. They took him to the sheriff\u2019s office where he remained silent throughout an interview that lasted more than 2.5 hours. <\/p>\n
The records reveal investigators interviewed Dorisme\u2019s father, who told detectives he was estranged from his son. <\/p>\n
According to Dorisme\u2019s father, Jerry was not allowed in the house after an incident where Jerry punched out the windows of the home. <\/p>\n
Jerry\u2019s father told investigators he learned his son was sleeping on the street approximately four years prior to Rose Dieujuste\u2019s murder. <\/p>\n
During the interview, detectives asked Jerry\u2019s father about his son\u2019s mental health and criminal history. <\/p>\n
Detectives also said Jerry was taken for an involuntary mental-health examination under Florida\u2019s Baker Act just three or four weeks before Rose was murdered. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe deputies found him walking down Silver Star with a knife Yeah, he dropped a knife and when they try to secure him he ended up fighting them,\u201d said Detective Nathan Ventura with the Orange County Sheriff\u2019s Office. <\/p>\n
Prior to Jerry Dorisme\u2019s arrest in July of 2024, Dorisme was sentenced to 366 days in prison for aggravated child abuse in 2021.<\/p>\n
Court records show he also previously pled no contest to separate trespassing charges. <\/p>\n
State prosecutors announced they would seek the death penalty against Dorisme on charges of First-degree murder with a weapon, kidnapping with intent to commit a felony, sexual battery with a deadly weapon, sexual battery with a deadly weapon, attempted sexual battery with a deadly weapon, and aggravated child abuse with a weapon. <\/p>\n
